Questions worth asking first
What counts as one managed server?
One operating-system instance you can log into and we can manage: a physical dedicated server, a VPS, or a cloud VM such as an EC2 instance, an Azure VM or a DigitalOcean droplet. Managed Server and Priority Managed Server are priced per instance, so two VPSs are two plans.
Can I put more than one server on a plan?
Each server needs its own plan, and you can mix levels — a Priority plan on the database server and a standard plan on the web node is a common shape. Volume pricing applies automatically at checkout: 8% from 5 servers, 12% from 10, taken off the recurring fee per server on either billing term. It does not apply to the $100 onboarding fee, which is per server on monthly and waived on annual. Orders run up to 20 servers — and past roughly ten, when several servers and their supporting cloud resources function as one platform, Managed Infrastructure is usually a better fit than stacking per-server subscriptions and chasing a larger discount.
When should I choose Managed Infrastructure instead?
When you are asking us to look after an environment rather than a box. If compute instances, managed databases, load balancers, caching, storage and the applications on top all operate as a single production platform, environment-level ownership makes more sense than managing each component as a separate subscription. Managed Infrastructure starts at $2,500/month.
What does the 30-minute or 15-minute response target actually mean?
It is the time to begin investigation and remediation on a qualifying critical (P1) incident once it has been detected by monitoring or reported by you. It is not a guaranteed resolution time — how long a fix takes depends entirely on the fault. We would rather commit to a number we control than one we do not. P1 incidents are raised in the client portal, and only for a server enrolled in an eligible managed plan; if a system that is not under a plan is down right now, Emergency Response is the route.
Do you need root or administrator access?
Generally yes. Proactive management means patching, restarting services and remediating incidents without waiting for someone to grant access mid-outage. Where you have specific security requirements or an existing privileged-access system, we coordinate that during onboarding.
Can you take over a server that is already running?
That is the normal case. Onboarding covers access and inventory, an OS and patch review, a security and firewall review, backup and recovery review, a performance baseline, monitoring deployment and documentation — then the server is accepted into ongoing management.
What if my server already has problems?
Onboarding is designed to find them, and routine baseline work is part of the fee. If we find significant pre-existing problems — a server that needs substantial remediation before it can responsibly be placed under a response target — that remediation is scoped separately and quoted before any work starts. The onboarding fee is a baseline, not an open-ended rescue project.
Are migrations included?
No. Moving a server between providers or datacenters, or migrating into the cloud, is project work rather than recurring management. We scope those separately, and they can also be handled through On-Demand Support.
Do you manage AWS, Azure and Google Cloud servers?
Yes. An individual cloud instance can go on a Managed Server or Priority Managed Server plan exactly like any other server. Larger cloud environments with managed databases, load balancers and multiple services belong on Managed Infrastructure.
Are application problems included?
Infrastructure and service-level troubleshooting is included on both plans. Priority Managed Server adds application-aware troubleshooting — PHP and runtime issues, database and application performance investigation, and root-cause work that crosses the server and application boundary. Neither plan includes application development or open-ended source-code debugging.
Are backups included?
Backup configuration review, job monitoring, verification and recovery-readiness review are all included within scope. Third-party backup storage and services are billed separately where they apply, and we will recommend an off-site or redundant strategy if the current one has gaps.
Why is annual cheaper?
Annual agreements pay for ten months and receive twelve months of cover, and the onboarding and baseline fee is waived. On Managed Server that is a first-year saving of $1,090 per server; on Priority Managed Server it is $2,090.
